MONTREAL SOBER LIVING

About Us

Milestone House is a sober living community for men located in the heart of Montreal's NDG neighborhood.

We help men build lasting foundations for recovery from substance use disorders—including alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications—as well as process addictions like gambling, technology dependence, and gaming.

Your Path To Recovery

We bring a modern approach to recovery in Canada—one that combines the proven structure of 12-step programs with transformative community living.

Our urban sober living community equips men with the tools, support, and real-world experiences they need to build meaningful lives in recovery.

Unlike traditional approaches that isolate residents from everyday life, we integrate recovery into the vibrant fabric of city living.

Our Philosophy

Getting sober is just the beginning. At Milestone House, we're focused on what comes next—how you build a life that makes recovery worth fighting for.

Your Path Forward

The name “Milestone House” reflects our belief that recovery is a journey marked by meaningful achievements.

Each step forward—from your first week of sobriety to your first job interview, from cooking a meal for the house to helping someone else stay on track—these are the milestones that build toward a transformed life.

Matthew Torralbo, CCAR

Founder & House Manager

Matthew founded Milestone House with a mission: to bring the recovery approach that changed his life to his hometown of Montreal.

After his own recovery journey led him to Ethos Recovery in Los Angeles, Matthew immersed himself in their community-based model. Recognizing his leadership potential, Ethos invited him to join their team as House Manager following his successful completion of the program.

In his work there, he gained firsthand experience guiding others through the early stages of recovery while deepening his understanding of what makes sustainable sobriety possible.

As a certified CCAR Recovery Coach, Matthew blends professional training with personal experience. His approach has been profoundly shaped by Ethos founder Chris Howard, who taught Matthew not just how to handle challenges, but how to completely reframe his approach to life.

“This program worked for me when nothing else did,” Matthew says. “Milestone House is my way of paying it forward—creating a place where men can build their foundation for recovery while staying connected to their lives here in Canada.”

Dave Bielik

Senior Director

Dave brings over 13 years of personal recovery experience to Milestone House, alongside nine years working with clients in residential care at Montreal's Chatsworth Pavilion.

At Chatsworth, Dave connected with people during their most difficult moments, and helped guide them through their recovery work. He brings genuine care and a steady presence that helps people feel seen and supported when they need it most.

As a certified CanAm interventionist, Dave has helped many individuals and families take their first steps toward healing. His approach was shaped by mentor Richard Hofman, the founder of Chatsworth, who showed him how to bridge the gap between knowing recovery concepts and actually living them day-to-day.

“I've seen firsthand the exponential impact of helping just one person,” Dave shares. “When someone heals, it transforms their family and ripples outward as they begin helping others. Each person we help can bring change to limitless people.”

With 40 years of deep roots in Montreal, Dave offers residents authentic connections to the community he knows and loves. This creates opportunities for true belonging as they move forward in their journey.

Our Story

How one man's recovery journey became a mission to transform Canadian sober living.

Our Roots

Our Roots

Our Roots

Milestone House was born from founder Matthew Torralbo's personal journey and his recognition of what was missing in Canadian recovery options.

After experiencing the transformative power of community-based recovery in Los Angeles, Matthew was inspired to bring this proven model home to Montreal.

Living the difference

Living the difference

Living the difference

Matthew experienced firsthand what makes the difference between just staying sober and actually building a life worth living.

It wasn't clinical supervision or being hidden away from the world—it was the connections, mentorship, and practical life skills he gained through living with others on the same journey.

Built For Canada

Developed in consultation with respected industry leaders, Milestone House represents a new standard in Canadian recovery support.

Matthew founded Milestone House to offer Canadians this caliber of Sober Living, creating an urban option for men seeking recovery while maintaining connection to city life.
