What Is Sober Living?
At its core, a sober living house is a supportive, substance-free environment where you can establish and strengthen your recovery.
Milestone House builds on this foundation with a modern approach, balancing structured support with real-world integration.
We empower residents to rebuild their lives and transition back to work or education, with our recovery community as their foundation and ongoing source of strength.
The Bridge to Lasting Recovery
Sober living is more than just a place to stay after treatment—it's an important phase in the recovery journey that bridges the gap between rehabilitation programs and fully independent living.
A quality sober living home provides a balance of structure and freedom, allowing residents to build confidence in their recovery while navigating real-world challenges with support.
Do Sober Houses Work?
Studies consistently show that individuals who transition through sober living have significantly higher rates of long-term sobriety than those who return directly to independent living after treatment.
Most people start their recovery journey without having developed the skills to balance sobriety with life’s everyday challenges.
The leap from treatment to independence creates hurdles:
Sudden freedom without adequate preparation
Loss of daily structure during a vulnerable time
Distance from others who understand the recovery journey
Everyday responsibilities that require practice to manage
Unexpected triggers without immediate support
The Bridge
Sober living provides the essential middle ground—a supportive environment where you can:
Apply recovery principles in real-world settings
Build life skills through daily practice
Develop healthy routines that support long-term recovery
Form relationships with others committed to recovery
Address underlying challenges with professional guidance
The Outcome
Sober living environments can deliver powerful results when you commit to the process.
Research from our partners at Ethos Recovery shows that longer stays in quality sober living environments lead to positive outcomes:
Mental health symptoms like depression and anxiety decrease
Family relationships significantly improve
Life satisfaction and emotional wellbeing increase
Education and employment outcomes strengthen
Long-term recovery rates substantially rise
The Benefits of Structure
Structure is the invisible framework that supports early recovery when internal motivation fluctuates. At Milestone House, our environment provides:
